Internship at Electria
Vantaa, Finland
August - January
2016 - 2017

During an internship at the research and development center Electria, several project were ongoing. The three of them are described below.

Smartphone Holder
When pregnant foreign women do not speak the local language(s), communication with nurses during medical procedures may be challenging. An easy way to solve that problem is with the presence of a translator. The Smartphone Holder was designed as a product facilitating auditory translation and visual interaction through Skype calls with a translator, fully fulfilling requirements for use in a medical environment. This enables an indirect, but clear communication between nurse and foreign patient.
Augmented Reality Cube
Together with a multidisciplinary team, an exposition at the Heureka Science Center was organized, allowing visitors to visualize 3D houses by using an augmented reality app available on their smartphone. I designed the Cube, the physical aspect of the project. It is an outdoor cube to which the visitor directs its smartphone in order to visualize the houses.

Virtual City Elements
As part of a bigger project striving towards the reproduction of the city of Vantaa within a virtual reality game, several environmental elements such as houses and trees were designed.

LEDSREACT
International Project
Kortrijk, Belgium
March
2016

The project
This project was made for the belgian company Ledsreact, together with a team of design students from Kortrijk, Cardiff, and Helsinki. The company presented their product, the Ledsreact, which, when approached, would indicate a random direction through enlightening of a certain color. The company's goal was to use the Ledsreact for purposes of cognitive training; therefore it asked the team to propose a purposeful application of the product.

Conceptualisation and Experiments
After the team's realization that the Ledsreact was a well fitted tool to strengthen the weak points of children with ADHD, several games where tested with the target audience in order to verify its applicability.
Games
As a result, several game rules where designed in order to stimulate teamwork, staying calm, focusing on one point and patience (see below for the rules of one of the games designed by me).

3 Floors
September - January
2015 - 2016
The Project
3 Floors refers to the project made for Else Groep. It consisted of designing an balcony table for drinks. The projects focused on the environment and interest of young adults living in urban areas.

Atmosphere
Once the concept was defined, the value of the Balcony Table was presented through marketing visuals.

Optimization
In order to optimize the industrial production process, engineering steps were taken to minimize redundant quantities of materials.
After that, the costs of the full production process was calculated, allowing some final adjustments within the process for final economical optimization.

The project
The Remote Control was a project consisting of the reproduction of the later technical steps to design a remote control. It required the application of the technical design rules to the engineer of both the parts of the remote control, and the injection mold.
